Very Warm and Busy April Afternoon at the Rochelle Railroad Park 04/16/16

After spending much of the morning looking at planes at the Illinois Valley Airport in Peru, IL, I went up to the Rochelle Railroad Park on a very warm afternoon. Compared to the Sunday before when I visited as well, it was about 40 degrees warmer and with that more people there. It was so crowded that I had to park past the UP crossing, though it was good to see people taking advantage of the weather. It was quite a busy when I visited especially since they were doing track work in Elmhurst on the UP backing up trains and they came through at once it seemed. Mostly UP and BNSF with a handful of Norfolk Southern power as well. I also went to just west of the Union Pacific Global 3 yard to spot as well. DPU), and 5013 (SD70M built 8/2002 DPU) passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. 3:04 A Herzog Multi-Purpose Machine (tie train) heads east on the BNSF Aurora sub. Quite a unusual looking train!! 3:48 A westbound Union Pacific empty coal train led by UP 5965 (AC44CWCTE built ?), 6446 (AC44CW built ? recently repainted), and 6858 (AC44CW built 1998 DPU), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. 7:51 A westbound Union Pacific intermodal train led by UP 7504 ( AC45CCTE built 2013?), 8072 (ES44AC-H built 2013), 8962 (SD70ACe built 2015), and 7915 (AC45CCTE built 2005), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. 11:16 A eastbound UP stack/auto rack mix train led by UP 4724 (SD70M built 1/2002), 8897 (SD70AH built 2014), and 8001 (AC45CCTE built 6/2012), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park out of Global 3 yard. I cut part of the train out due to length. 15:49 A eastbound BNSF z-train led by 8131 (ES44C4 built 2014), 8384 (ES44C4 built 2015), 5207 (C44-9W built 10/2003), 7045 (ES44C4 built 2012), and 6866 (ES44C4 built 2012), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. Your typical BNSF intermodal lashup. Cue the idiot driver in the blue mustang at 19:01 before a westbound manifest comes through. 19:13 Not long after the eastbound z-train disappears out of sight a westbound BNSF mixed manifest train led by BNSF 7600 (ES44DC built 8/2007) and 7306 (ES44DC) passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. 22:21 A westbound Union Pacific/Norfolk Southern oil train led by UP 6541 (AC44CW built 2000?), NS 8127 (ES44AC built 10/2012), and NS 2689 (SD70M-2 built 2005), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park and into Global 3 yard. I would see the same train come out of the yard a couple hours later. 25:23 A eastbound UP/NS oil train led by UP 5059 (SD70M built 10/2002) and NS 9472 (C44-9W built 2004), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. 27:50 A westbound Union Pacific hopper train led by UP 4106 (SD70M built 10/2000), 7266 (AC44CW built 2000), and CSX 7551 (C40-8 built 8/1989) passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. 31:43 A westbound BNSF z-train led by BNSF 5472 (C44-9W built 4/2000), 4591 (C44-9W built 11/1999), 4384 (C44-9W built 3/1999), and 9179 (SD70ACe built 2/2008), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. Always good to see a Ace on a Bnsf intermodal. 34:40 I headed over to the yard for about an hour or so I saw a couple trains including a fast intermodal that I couldn't get on time and this manifest. A westbound Union Pacific mixed manifest led by UP 8505 (SD70ACe built 6/2006), 8671 (SD70ACe built 2011), and 6217 (ex-SP AC44CW built 5/1995), passes by near the Global 3 yard west of Rochelle. 38:22 Back at the park for a short bit, a westbound Union Pacific stack train led by UP 5443 (AC45CCTE built 5/2005), 8142 (ES44AC-H built 2014), and 4854 (SD70M built 12/2001), passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. This train was filmed by my phone since the flipcam was out of power. I caught a couple trains with just my phone camera since my flipcam was running out of power 40:48 A westbound Union Pacific stack train led by UP 8513 ( SD70ACe built 7/2006) and 8378 (SD70ACe built 2005) passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park and into Global 3 yard. 41:52 A eastbound Union Pacific mixed manifest led by 4 engines including 503 (GP38-2 built 2/1974) passes through the Rochelle Railroad Park. The rest of the pictures include that UP/NS oil train from earlier coming back out of the yard heading west and the stack train the last video I got.
