Laverne & Shirley (1976) Cast Then and Now 2026: Who's Still Alive After 50 Years? Laverne & Shirley (1976) cast then and now: who's still alive after 50 years? This video looks back at the full cast of the classic ABC sitcom Laverne & Shirley, which premiered in 1976 and became the most-watched show on American television for two consecutive seasons. We cover the real stories behind Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, the two leads who became lifelong friends again after a very public falling out, Marshall's later career as a trailblazing Hollywood director of films like Big and A League of Their Own, as well as Michael McKean and David L. Lander, the duo behind fan favorites Lenny and Squiggy. The video also looks at supporting cast members Eddie Mekka, Betty Garrett, Phil Foster, Leslie Easterbrook, Ed Marinaro, and Carole Ita White, covering who is still alive today and who has passed away, with respect and without speculation. Along the way, we share behind-the-scenes details about how the show was created as a spin-off of Happy Days, the true story behind its famous opening chant, and the real reason behind Cindy Williams's departure from the show in 1982.
