Uwe Hohn and Jānis Lūsis at the 1st World Javelin Conference Kuortane (by Tapio Korjus) Finland 2009-10-9/11. The two legendary javelin throwers were invited as the special guests of honour for the inaugural event, which took place from October 9–11, 2009. The conference was hosted at the Kuortane Sports Institute (an IAAF Accredited Training Centre) and organized by 1988 Olympic Champion Tapio Korjus. It brought together 77 sport experts, coaches, and scientists from 23 different countries to discuss biomechanics, training, and injury prevention. Uwe Hohn: Representing the former East Germany, Hohn is famous for being the only athlete in history to throw the javelin 100 meters or more. His legendary 104.80-meter throw in 1984 stands as an "eternal world record" because it prompted the IAAF to redesign the men's javelin to shorten flight distances for safety reasons. Jānis Lūsis: The late Latvian icon (who competed for the Soviet Union) is regarded as one of the greatest javelin throwers of all time. He won a complete set of Olympic medals (Gold in 1968, Silver in 1972, Bronze in 1964), was a four-time European Champion, and broke the world record twice. Their presence provided a historic backdrop to the elite gathering, bridging the legacy of classical javelin achievements with modern biomechanical training methods .
