How do you build a business you can actually walk away from, and sell? Gavin Bell built a marketing agency, worked himself out of it, and sold it in three years. He's now building an online pharmacy from scratch. Gavin Bell spent around ten years in marketing before building the advertising agency Yatter, which he ran like a product rather than an agency and sold inside three to four years. He is now building Talo, an online pharmacy taking a more proactive, diagnostics-led approach to health. In this conversation he explains how he removed himself from the delivery and the sales so the business could be sold, the scorecard and red-amber-green system he used to spot client churn before it happened, why he negotiated his earn-out down from two years to nine months, and why he thinks that when anyone can build software, marketing becomes the only real moat.
