Wildsbok - Psalm 42

This is an arrangement of the well-known Afrikaans song "Soos n wildsbok" for SATB A Capella Choir. It is based on the text of psalm 42: "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God." The text laments the remoteness from the temple of God, and expressing the desire of the renewal of the divine presence. I tried to capture longing in unusual chord progression, eventually resolving to the tonic, which reflects the desire to be with God and the peace found in the presence of God. The sustained notes between sections, echoes this longing and continued search for God. The broad dynamic shifts shows the contrasting idea of the power of God on the one side, but the peace found within him on the other. I hope you enjoy this piece.
