Where Westport Meets the World: Crispin Cioe, Uptown Horns Saxophonist

Westport’s own Dan Woog brings his popular blog “06880: Where Westport Meets the World” to life, via the Verso Studios at The Westport Library — recorded LIVE in the Trefz Forum! His guest this week is Crispin Cioe, acclaimed saxophonist, songwriter, producer/arranger, and co-founder of the NYC-based Uptown Horns. Raised in Detroit and shaped by the sounds of Motown, rock & roll, and jazz, Cioe has built a remarkable career performing and recording with some of the biggest names in music. His credits include The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Ray Charles, the B-52s, Robert Plant & The Honeydrippers, Joe Cocker, Debbie Harry, Aretha Franklin, Buster Poindexter, and Scissor Sisters. Beyond the stage, Cioe has music-directed major television specials, including The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor and In Performance: Live from The White House. He has also contributed music to film projects and recently co-produced the documentary Heaven Stood Still: The Incarnations of Willy DeVille, now screening across Europe and the U.S. Cioe continues to lead his own band, Cracked Ice, and performs regularly with longtime musical collaborators, including Darlene Love, Steven Van Zandt, Smith & Watt Steakhouse, and The Namedroppers.
