⸻ 🌍 History of Gavri — English Gavri (Gawri) is an ancient folk theatre and dance tradition of Rajasthan, particularly associated with the Mewar region and the Bhil community. It is much more than a dance—it combines traditional songs, acting, storytelling, rituals and folk mythology. The Gavri tradition generally begins around Raksha Bandhan and continues for nearly 40 days. During this period, male performers take on different characters and travel from village to village to perform. One distinctive feature is that male performers also portray female characters. The performances include stories connected with Shiva and Parvati, goddesses, Banasur and other folk-mythological characters. The exact stories and beliefs can vary between different communities and regions. Even today, Gavri remains an important part of Mewar’s living folk culture and tribal theatre tradition, preserving stories and traditions passed down through generations. #Gawri #Gavri #Rajasthan #RajasthaniCulture #RajasthanFolkDance #GawriDance #GavriDance #RajasthanTradition #TribalCulture #Mewar #Rajsamand #Kumbhalgarh #IndianCulture #VillageVlog #TheRealJitendra
