Gloster Hill – Tommy Tynan Performed by Aldbourne Band conducted by Glyn WIlliams Gloster Hill was written for Forest of Dean Brass and the Imjin River Memorial Fund for their fundraising concert at All Saints Church, Viney Hill, on 20 September 2025. The work commemorates the Gloucestershire Regiment — the “Glorious Glosters” — and their extraordinary stand at the Battle of the Imjin River during the Korean War in April 1951. Heavily outnumbered, the regiment held its positions for three days, delaying the enemy advance and helping to safeguard Seoul. Their courage and sacrifice left an enduring legacy in both British and South Korean history. The music begins in a dark, battle-like style before moving into a brighter and more celebratory mood. Fragments of the Korean folk song “Imjin River” are woven throughout the piece, with the full melody first heard in the horn section at Figure D. 50% of all profit from sales of Gloster Hill will be donated to the Imjin River Memorial Fund.
