Mega Drive 50Hz You are treated to two SEGA Mega Drive music soundtracks on the one disc and in the one video. Super Hang-On sounds pretty good for an early release on the system. The arcade to home console conversion holds up fairly good even today. Even though it is stripped down and in mono, the FM drums do a decent job here and the synths are replicated very well to the arcade original and the PAL version surprise surprise, is optimised. Super Thunder Blade was one of two launch titles for the Mega Drive/Genesis and being such an early release on the system, it is forgivable for it to have a very sour and bland sound. In late 1988 Sega devs were still fine-tuning how to use the FM-YM2612 and because of this, the music was never going to be perfect. The FM drums once again sound pretty decent here but it's the other FM synths that bring it down. Those screeching synths, wrong notes being heard, music in the wrong key, the loose slap bass solo removed from Stage 3's theme and of course the music not even in the same tempo like the arcade original makes it even more stranger to listen too. The game is unoptimised for the PAL release and the music plays slower because of that. There aren't too many uploads of Super Thunder Blade in PAL 50Hz so it was about time I put something out at default PAL 50Hz speed for you. The bonus ''Type II'' track was an experiment to prove that something extremely similar to the arcade original version was possible on the console. I'm sure you'd all agree that this track is a banger and does the arcade original much better justice than the Mega Drive soundtrack, but we were never going to get anything like this that early in 1988, especially as a rushed launch title, you just have to understand that. MUSIC COMPOSERS: Koichi Namiki, Katsuhiro Hayashi, Hiroshi Kawaguchi, Sachio Ogawa 1988, 1989. SOUND DRIVER: Early pre-SMPS Z80. SOUND QUALITY: 384 Kbps. TRACKS: ♫ SUPER HANG-ON 1. Enjoy.
