Blue Jay "Squeaky Gate" Call

Is it Joy? We can't say for sure why Blue Jays make this unique call. I've documented a lot of the legendary Blue Jay Squeaky Gate Calls in the mountains of North Carolina. Sometimes called rusty gate, rusty pump handle or rusty swing set or clothes line call – if you have blue jays you know what I mean! What is interesting is I have a lot of blue jays in Florida and I have never heard this call there before - ever. This time the Blue Jay just seems to be having fun splashing in the water for a bit and jumping out and making the rusty gate call about four times just above the mountain spring and then jumping back into the water and repeating three more times. This looks like fun to me.
