On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Danforth Avenue came alive with Greek pride, music, and tradition as the Toronto Greek community gathered to commemorate the 86th anniversary of Oxi Day. This annual parade is more than just a celebration — it honours a defining moment in Greek history and the courage to stand up against fascism. 🇬🇷 Walk along the Danforth and experience the atmosphere as marching bands, Greek Orthodox parishes, student associations, community organizations, and cultural groups make their way through the streets in beautiful traditional Greek costumes. The colours, music, and proud expressions of Greek heritage make this a special event to experience in Toronto. PARADE ROUTE & HIGHLIGHTS The procession travelled westbound along Danforth Avenue, starting near Euston Avenue and Donlands Avenue and continuing toward Broadview Avenue. After the parade, the commemorations continued at Alexander the Great Parkette, near Danforth Avenue and Logan Avenue, with a traditional memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony. 🇬🇷 WHAT IS OXI DAY? Oxi Day, meaning “No Day” in Greek, commemorates October 28, 1940, when Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas rejected an ultimatum from Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. This historic refusal marked Greece’s entry into World War II against the Axis powers and became a lasting symbol of courage, resistance, and national pride. Today, Greek communities around the world continue to honour this important chapter in history, bringing generations together to preserve their heritage and remember the sacrifices made for freedom. The Toronto parade is a wonderful opportunity to experience Greek culture, community spirit, and history right here in Canada.
