If we are saved by grace, why did Jesus warn that some who call Him “Lord, Lord” will still hear, “I never knew you”? Matthew chapter seven can raise serious questions about salvation, assurance, good works, and what it really means to know Jesus.
This video looks carefully at Jesus’ warning without weakening grace or turning self-examination into fear. We explore why religious activity is not the foundation of salvation, how a changed life relates to grace, and how to examine what you are truly relying on without constantly wondering whether you have done enough.
Jesus does not tell the people in Matthew chapter seven that they simply needed more good works. They point to what they did in His name, but His response is, “I never knew you.” That distinction matters.
Salvation is not something we earn through church attendance, ministry, obedience, Bible knowledge, or an impressive Christian record. Our hope rests in Christ. At the same time, grace does not make the way we live meaningless. A real relationship with God begins to reach into the ordinary, unseen parts of life—how we respond when we sin, whether we return to God when we fail, and whether our faith is more than something we say.
The goal is not endless fear or false assurance. It is honest self-examination that brings us back to the right foundation.
This week, consider one question:
What am I really placing my hope in?
Not, “Have I done enough?”
But, “Am I relying on what I have done, or am I trusting in Jesus?”
