fter almost 15 years, I stepped out for Navratri this year. But I didn't want the commercial garba happening in my town. I wanted to see where authentic garba still lives — so I went to the villages. My farmer friend (you may remember him from the bel juice video) took me around the whole village on his bike, and he even became my cameraman for the day.
The first village we visited was Padgol, about 10 km from my home. The whole village had gathered at the chowk near the temple, a mela was set up, and everyone was there — it felt like a proper festival. This is what Navratri looked like before it became commercialized: every neighborhood contributed money, tents and lights were set up with that pooled money, and everyone danced together. No entry fee, no dress code, just community. On one side there was garba, and on the other side a food mela with rides, tattoos, and families enjoying themselves. The village folks were even giving out free chai — a world away from party plots where everything costs money.
After spending about half an hour there, we rode 4 km to the next village. I was on the motorcycle and my farmer friend filmed from behind. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the garba had already ended, so we moved on to our third and final village — and this one was the highlight. This is what I call "stress-free Navratri." No tickets, no preparation, no fancy clothes — just come as you are in your home clothes and dance. Garba starts around 8–9 PM and goes on till 12–1 AM, and through it all, devotion to the Mother Goddess stays at the center.
It was genuinely refreshing to experience Navratri like this after so many years. I hope you enjoy this vlog as much as I enjoyed making it. Thank you for watching, and good night!
