Severn Valley Railway - Autumn Steam Gala 2026 - 18-20/09/26

The Severn Valley Railway host their headline Autumn Steam Gala, this year with a selection of GWR and LMS locomotives on show. The event saw the debut of Isle of Wight based LMS Ivatt 2MT Tank 41313 at the Severn Valley, in addition to the return of 46115 from Carnforth, having previously visited the line back in 2025. The 'Scot' was a last minute addition to the event's line-up, alongside GWR 2884 Class 3850 from the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, as replacements for BR Standard 4MT Tank 80097 and GWR Small Prairie 5526. 3850 was well suited to the 813 Loco Group's rake of mixed GWR liveried wagons during the event, giving opportunities to see an appropriate matching loco & stock freight set. A fourth guest came in the form of GWR 5700 Pannier Tank 9681 from the Dean Forrest Railway, which would be paired with home fleet Pannier 7714 in a recreation of the final service train along the line, which took place on 8th September 1963 hauled by Pannier Tanks 9624 & 4665. The gala also marked the return of Large Prairie 4150, now the 154th ex-Barry locomotive to steam again, with her overhaul having been completed earlier in the summer. With a full paintjob required on the engine, the locomotive carried a temporary livery, with a SVR version of the GWR Monogram on the fireman's side. Joining 4150 were other members of the Severn Valley's home fleet, including LMS Stanier Mogul 13268, recently reported to soon be making a return to the mainline, and GWR 1400 Autotank 1450, which would run prototypical autotrain local services throughout the gala weekend.
