Udhagamandalam—better known as Ooty, the Queen of Hill Stations! ⛰️✨ Emerald green tea slopes, chilling mountain air, and the historic Nilgiri toy train cutting right through ancient hills. In this episode of Project 36, I took the trusty Pulsar 220 up the Nilgiris to chase pure monsoon magic, iconic mountain railways, and jaw-dropping cliff views. The journey kicked off from Coimbatore around 10:30 AM under bright sunny skies. Ahead lay an 85-kilometer uphill stretch that took nearly 3 hours to carve through. One of the best surprises right at the foot of the hills was the strict eco-checkpost banning all single-use plastics and bottles—a massive win for preserving these pristine forests! Just as the twisting ghat roads began, the skies opened up. Sudden mountain showers soaked the tarmac, forcing an impromptu chai stop by the misty roadside. A piping-hot cup later, the rain cleared up, leading straight to Coonoor for a bite of the legendary, crispy chicken leg-piece puff at the historic Iyengar Bakery. Following a tip from friendly locals, I skipped the crowded tourist spots and rode 3 kilometers down to a hidden, razor-sharp hairpin bend. The wait paid off: hearing the whistle echo before watching the iconic blue-and-cream Nilgiri Toy Train snake through lush hills right below was an absolute cinematic dream! 🚂💨 Rolling into Ooty, I checked into Sapphire Paradise hostel for just ₹500. Though booked as dorm beds, I scored the entire room to myself! From there, it was a race against the clock to reach Sunset Point. Watching the sun dip behind the valley before the entire hill city burst into a glittering sea of golden night lights was pure therapy—the exact reason I live for the open road. Having prepared only for South India's brutal plains heat, the sudden 16°C freeze with thick rolling fog hit hard!
