What’s ACTUALLY WORTH SAVING from scrapping a Cisco 5510 v06 Firewall

Hey folks. Today we’re continuing with our networking equipment tear down series. We scrap out a Cisco 5510 v06. This is a Cisco enterprise firewall. This device is loaded with gold corner BGA and yellow tantalum capacitors. It’s got a really nice chunky aluminum heat sink for the CPU and several gold rimmed oscillators. It appears to me that the network connector pins are moderately gold plated so they are less desirable. This device was manufactured in 2006 and I’d assess it to have a high grade telecom mother board. We also look for silver and palladium bearing MLCCs. These sorts of devices are very good for precious metal recovery including gold, silver, platinum, tantalum and non-precious metals of copper, aluminum, and steel.
