Turning and fitting a chisel handle

I own a set of Narex chisels, one of witch I've managed to break the handle. Be gentle, then you wont have to make a new one. I turn a new handle out of ash that has been lying around the shop for quite some time. If you are like me and don't own an awl (or can't find it), the recipe for a 'poor-mans awl' is: A nail Some wood File the four faces of the pointy end so that the edges get sharp.
