MRT Kamphaeng Phet, Exit 3, puts you at the entrance. Roughly 06:00 to 20:00 daily. Is Or Tor Kor the best market in Bangkok? It depends what you want. Or Tor Kor is government-run and it shows — spotless, wide aisles, air-conditioned in parts, and considerably more expensive than anywhere else. Khlong Toei across town is the opposite: raw, wet, working, and where the city's restaurants actually buy. Or Tor Kor is the one to visit. Khlong Toei is the one that feeds Bangkok. What should you eat there? The khao gaeng court — ready-made curries ladled over rice from stainless basins, point at what you want. It's one of the better cheap meals in the city and it sits in the rear dining hall. The kung pao, split and charcoal-grilled river prawns, are the expensive option and the most photogenic thing in the building. What about the durian? Sold by varietal and priced by weight. Monthong and Kanyao are the two names to know. It's more expensive here than anywhere else in Bangkok, and it's also the best-looking. Is it worth going if you're also doing Chatuchak? Yes, and it's the easy version. They're across the road from each other, so you can do Or Tor Kor in the cool of the morning and walk over to Chatuchak after.
