Last Rose of Summer by Stephen Gallagher. Sci-fi radio drama from 1978

The Last Rose of Summer is set in a dystopian future, where humans are a slave to Central Command and only watch official vid-tapes. Then Randall, a bored citizen starts to investigate and doesn't like what he finds. It's normally the BBC who make the great radio dramas, but this one is different, being produced by Independent Local Radio (Piccadilly 261) and broadcast across the IRL network in 1978. It was broadcast in 6 x 25 minute episodes. Good quality copies of this series aren't easy to get hold of and I lost mine many years ago, until I found them on an old memory stick. I've put them into one file, but kept the episodic broadcasts. This is a fantastic start to the trilogy, and well worth a listen by anyone interested in good sci-fi drama. A first outing for renowned author Stephen Gallagher, know for Doctor Who as well as his own books. This was followed by Hunter's Moon and The Babylon Run.
