Hi guys,
Autumn is here, and we all know how much grayling love picking tiny olive duns off the water's surface. That's why today I want to show you two simple and effective ways to tie these delicate little dry flies using CDC.
The nice thing about these techniques is that you can use CDC scraps instead of wasting your best, full-sized feathers, which are better saved for larger flies.
Tying dry flies on very small hooks can be challenging, especially when working with delicate CDC feathers. But it doesn't have to be complicated.
In this video, I'll show you two easy methods to create tiny, natural-looking Olive CDC Duns with just a few materials.
Both techniques are practical, easy to learn, and perfect for tying small dry flies for selective trout and grayling.
I hope you find them useful. Enjoy the video!
*Hooks used are #18 and #20 but you can go smaller as well.
*Thread used is Champion Micro Split - as body thread
*Tails: always Coq de Leon - Rubion
*Wing: CDC barbs ( from CDC scraps)
Tying tip: I prefer to use only CDC fibers because CDC feather stems are too thick for small flies. Using entire feathers to form the wings can make the fly look bulky..
