Could Donald Trump refuse to leave office in 2028? Are Democrats doing enough for Black voters? And what happens when artificial intelligence begins replacing American workers?
On this episode of Conversate with Killer Mike, Killer Mike sits down with Florida State Representative and U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon for a conversation about political power, economic inequality, voting rights, and the future of working class America.
Nixon shares her journey from growing up in Jacksonville's Moncrief neighborhood to becoming a community organizer, business owner, and political leader. She opens up about the personal experiences that shaped her commitment to public service, including growing up around domestic violence, losing family members to gun violence, and witnessing the unequal opportunities available to children in different neighborhoods.
Killer Mike and Nixon discuss the fight against voter suppression, Ron DeSantis and Florida politics, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and why Black candidates continue to struggle for financial support within the Democratic Party. They also question why national Democrats repeatedly overlook the South despite its political importance.
The conversation turns to billionaires, government contracts, corporate influence, and the potential impact of AI and automation on American jobs. Nixon explains why she believes voting alone is not enough and why communities must organize, demand accountability, and participate in decisions that affect their neighborhoods.
Nixon also introduces Cafe Resistance, her Jacksonville bookstore and coffee shop created in response to book restrictions and challenges to Black history education. Beyond selling books and coffee, the space provides mentorship, educational programming, and community resources.
As the election approaches, Nixon shares her concerns about Donald Trump, the future of American democracy, and what she believes is at stake in 2028.
From Black political leadership and economic justice to the power of grassroots organizing, this conversation asks a fundamental question: Who is our government really working for?
