Speaking with Rolling Stone’s Jeff Ihaza, he brought his subdued and pointed wit to the #music business, life on the road, and the expectations placed on Black artists. His latest album, ‘Crybaby,’ is adventurously genre-agnostic, carrying the frenetic energy of #punk, #funk, and #jazz. Staples discussed the making of the record, touring with a live band, and how working on his Netflix series, #thevincestaplesshow, changed his approach to music.
