Why the Sega Saturn Lost to PlayStation?

The Sega Saturn reached American stores before the PlayStation. So why did Sony win? This short documentary explores Sega’s surprise $399 launch, Sony’s $299 price, the confusion surrounding the 32X, and the challenges developers faced making Saturn games. But the Saturn’s story wasn’t just about failure. From Virtua Fighter and NiGHTS into Dreams to Panzer Dragoon Saga, its games gave players reasons to keep the console long after Sega moved on. We also look at the cancelled Sonic X-treme and why Saturn’s success in Japan never translated into the same success worldwide. Did you own a Sega Saturn? Which game made you glad you chose it?
