Elli Banii Ceremony- A traditional post-harvest marriage ritual practiced by the Apatani tribe in the Ziro Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, India.
The ritual represents a blessing of fertility, abundance, and prosperity for the newlywed couple. Unhusked paddy grains, fresh green plants, and seeds gifted during the ceremony symbolize a stable and prosperous life for the new household.
The bride and participating women carry traditional cane baskets (Taki Yagw / Elyi Yagw) loaded with newly harvested rice, live ginger plants, crop seeds, and sometimes a hen with its chicks. The bride is typically accompanied by her brothers, while her mother often walks at the tail end of the procession carrying young green plants.
