Thika Road Highway in Kenya Description Thika Road is an 8-lane controlled-access highway in Kenya, with 12 lanes in some sections. It links the capital city of Nairobi with the industrial town of Thika. The Thika Road forms 50 km of the A2 Highway, which is part of the Cape to Cairo Road. Wikipedia Welcome to Kenya's 12 Lane Masterpiece, the incredible Thika Superhighway spanning an impressive 50 kilometers from the vibrant heart of Nairobi City through the bustling industrial towns of Ruiru, Juja and ends at Thika Town and now being finalized to cover another distance to Marwa. During the early 2000s, Industrial Development increased in this area and the existing Road became very congested and it took two hours to drive the 50 kilometers stretch to Thika town and road accidents were common too. The Visionary leadership of the then President of the Republic of Kenya his Excellence Mwai Kibaki (late) recognized the need for change and stepped in to transform the landscape with this ambitious project. In January 2009, construction of a 12 Lane Super Highway with 8 Lanes in other sections commenced and inaugurated in November 2012 and the travel time from Nairobi City to Thika town was reduced from 2 hours to 40 minutes at a total cost of 360 million dollars and the funding was provided by the African Development Bank, The Exim Bank of China and the government of Kenya.
