Kozhikode is a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It was a significant spice trade center and is close to Kappad Beach, where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498. Kozhikode also known in English as Calicut, is a city along the Malabar Coast in the state of Kerala in India. It is the largest city in the region known as the Malabar and was the capital of the British-era Malabar district.
