Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, widely known as the Mysore Zoo, is one of the oldest and most famous zoological parks in India. Spanning over 157 acres (including the nearby Karanji Lake precinct), it houses around 1,450 specimens across 168+ species gathered from over 25 countries. Establishment (1892): Founded by Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar X of the Yadu dynasty on 10 acres carved from his summer palace grounds. Originally called the Palace Zoo or Khas-Bangale, it served both as a royal collection and an educational facility. Public Opening (1902–1920): Recognizing its educational value, the Maharaja opened the zoo to the general public.
