New England is currently warming faster and losing snow cover faster than global averages. Sea levels are rising, and severe droughts and floods are starting to appear in numerous parts of New England due to this warming. We will still get years with cold, cold winters and snow, but they are becoming farther and farther apart. Come hear Professor Young explain what changes are occurring in New England, the science of why these changes are occurring, and what our future might look like.
The talk will be based on Professor Young’s most recent (December 2025) publication in the journal Climate: Decreasing snow cover and increasing temperatures are accelerating in New England, USA, with long-term implications, written with his son Joshua Young.

DR. STEPHEN YOUNG, professor of remote sensing and environmental sustainability in the Geography and Sustainability Department at Salem State University, is returning to continue using science to support and encourage raising awareness and taking action.
