From Porto’s Campanhã Station, the journey continued by train to the nearby towns of Aveiro and Costa Nova, with its colorful striped houses. The story behind Costa Nova’s charming striped village, which looked like something straight out of a picture book, was discovered along the way. A lively fish market, the misty Atlantic Ocean, and enormous sand dunes also came into view. In Aveiro, known as the “Venice of Portugal,” the traditional Moliceiro boats could be seen gliding along the canals, followed by a leisurely walk through beautiful streets lined with jacaranda trees in full purple bloom. On the way back to Porto, the Capela de Santa Catarina, also known as the Almas Chapel, was unexpectedly encountered—a place that had been completely forgotten. Isn’t that one of the joys of traveling? Even when things don’t go according to plan, simply keeping on walking can lead to a completely different view.
