Ep. 141 | The Unseen Realm — Part 1 — What's Actually There

Most of us were handed two categories for the spiritual world: angels and demons. The Bible has considerably more than two. In Part 1 of a five-part series, we set the rules we'll use for the rest of it — then go to the text and see what's actually in the room. 📌 KEY POINTS: The two-category picture came largely through translation. The Septuagint collapsed a wider Hebrew vocabulary into "angelos" and "daimonion," and English inherited the compression. Angels are not supernatural. They existed before us and belong to that realm natively. If anything in Scripture is "supernatural," it's the human beings. Four types of claims — textual, historical, experiential, physical — and the discipline of not demanding physical proof for an experiential claim, or the reverse. Deuteronomy 32:8: the Dead Sea Scrolls read "sons of God," the Masoretic Text reads "sons of Israel." Israel doesn't exist yet at Babel — which is the argument from sense you can check without knowing Hebrew. Elohim is a residence term, not a rank. It says nothing about a being's power, moral status, or authority — which is why the human dead in 1 Samuel 28 can carry the same word. Ha-satan is an article plus a noun: THE adversary. It's a job description in the divine council long before it functions as a proper name. The manuscript tradition is stable.
