Michael D Higgins addresses the European Parliament

PRESIDENT MICHAEL D HIGGINS has addressed the European Parliament in Strasbourg today, as part of Ireland’s presidency of the European Union. In his speech, President Higgins dealt with the themes of political legitimacy in Europe, and warned that current trends could see ordinary people treated more like consumers than citizens. The President also warned of the “urgent need for new models of connection between economy, society and policy”.
