The Six Black Dominos’ “I’m Going South” is a lively fox-trot written by Abe Silver and Harry Woods. The recording has the bright, syncopated dance-band sound typical of the early 1920s, with a jaunty Southern-themed melody designed for the popular fox-trot dancing of the period. “Six Black Dominos” was one of the pseudonyms used on inexpensive dance-record labels for recordings by various studio orchestras associated with the Plaza/Regal organization.
The underlying Plaza recording was made on December 11, 1923, with matrix 5361-2, and was also issued on Regal 9585 under the name Eph Hanaford’s Orchestra.
Domino release date: 1924.
