Himalaya Ki Ganga : Why Kanpur Needs Our Attention

Himalaya ki Ganga takes you to Kanpur where one of the biggest cities of Uttar Pradesh where Ganga face the biggest crisis with huge industrial as well a untreated sewage into the river. Ganga look adoring at Bithoor, an important pilgrimage for the locals but equally historical for the role it played during 1857 war of independence. Lav Khush Barrage in Kanpur is meant to supply drinking water to city population but it also created recreational facilities for the people in the zones termed as New Kanpur but the river become thirsty while passing through the city where you can see big sand bank on the river. Iconic railway bridge built by East India Company is not operational now but the river used to look stunning once upon a time. Kanpur need to give special attention to Ganga. It is good that the Nagar nigam and others are portraying the city and the river positively but it is also a fact that the city suffers and turn into chaos during Monsoon whenever the Ganga water crosses the danger mark. Are we not prepared for such kind of emergencies or busy with just portraying 'success' stories. Kanpur need credible long term solution to keep Ganga clean as it is the life line not just for the city but for rest of the country too. Barrages and dams have hurt Ganga a lot and it is important that they are not planned in such a way that one side look stunning while other side suffer in thirst. Himalaya Ki Ganga is my journey of river Ganga from Himalayas till Bay of Bengal. I am going to share my experiences about the river and communities through serialisation of my videos. These videos will about Ganga and the communities around it and how they are tackling with climatic crisis. This is a serious effort to understand Ganga, our rivers and the crisis that we face.
