What Does It Mean to Raise African Children Abroad| Zim Girl Diaries: hospital visit, picnics& all

What does it mean to raise African children in a country that didn't raise you? In this vlog, I take you along for a few ordinary days with my family, from a worrying trip to the hospital with my daughter, to lunch afterwards when she was feeling better, and eventually a lovely family picnic a few days later. But underneath those ordinary moments, I found myself thinking about something much bigger. As a Zimbabwean woman raising children in the UK, what parts of my childhood do I want to pass on? What parts do I need to unlearn? How do I give my children roots without deciding where their branches are allowed to grow? This is a conversation about African parenting abroad, identity, culture, belonging, motherhood, immigration, faith and the complicated beauty of building a family away from where you began. I don't have all the answers. I'm simply thinking out loud about what it means to raise children between worlds, and what it means to allow them to become their own people while still knowing where they come from.
