Today I cooked a forgotten traditional Igbo village meal called Fio Fio (Pigeon Peas) and Yam. It has been ages since I last prepared this meal, and I decided to cook it again for my children because it is one of the oldest, simplest, and healthiest traditional African foods I grew up with. Fio Fio (also known as pigeon peas) is a highly nutritious legume that has been eaten in many African homes for generations. When cooked properly, it becomes soft, rich, and very filling. It is usually enjoyed with boiled yam, making it a complete and healthy traditional meal. This is more than just food — it is part of Igbo food culture, Nigerian village cooking, and African heritage meals that are slowly becoming forgotten in modern kitchens. I love bringing these kinds of recipes back so my children can also experience the taste of true traditional home cooking. In this video, I prepared everything in my simple village-style outdoor kitchen to keep the traditional cooking feel alive. This is part of my lifestyle and African food content where I share easy village meals, traditional Nigerian recipes, and healthy old-school foods.
