La Fuite (12:33) William Steinberg, conductor Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Recorded on October 21, 1957 in Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh William Steinberg's collaboration with the Pittsburgh produced some of his most interesting recordings. He began on Capitol with the orchestra and eventually recorded for Command; an audiophile label from the early stereo period. His Capitol recordings were no less memorable. Made in the long extinct Syria Mosque they are also quite fascinating for the early stereo period. The flip side of his wonderful "L'Coq D'or" it was also recorded out of phase. Or sort of in-phase, whichever you prefer, to get a hyper-stereo effect on those early record players of the period. Because we have to, the current recording is corrected to something more responsible on modern reproducers, but we did as little as possible: the performance is wonderful and so is the raucous acoustics of the hall. One does not mess with something this much fun to listen to. 24-bit Disk Transfer and restoration (2026) Paul Howard - the Yucaipa Studio In order for our posts to remain commercial-free, we do not monetize on this channel.
