The Numbers Don't Lie - Josh Heupel, Vols Need Portal Quarterbacks

The numbers don't lie and they raise some big questions about Josh Heupel's offense and Tennessee football's quarterback strategy. On The Sports Source, the discussion turns to one of the biggest issues facing the Tennessee Vols: Can Josh Heupel run his trademark high-tempo offense with young quarterbacks or does Tennessee need to prioritize veteran quarterbacks from the transfer portal? The numbers tell an interesting story. Tennessee has typically ranked among the nation's top teams in tempo under Heupel, but that changes with inexperienced quarterbacks. The panel breaks down the connection between tempo, offensive production, quarterback experience and time of possession and explains why the Vols may need to rethink how they build their quarterback room. Should Tennessee focus on recruiting and developing five-star high school quarterbacks, or spend its NIL money on proven veterans in the transfer portal? Joey Aguilar's impact on the offense adds another layer to the debate, along with the importance of receiver experience, quick decisions and protecting a young quarterback. Is the answer a veteran transfer, a developing young quarterback or a combination of both? The Sports Source panel weighs in on what Josh Heupel and Tennessee need to do to keep the Vols competitive in the SEC. Join the conversation: Should Tennessee prioritize portal quarterbacks?
