What remains when a gold rush town completely empties out?] Nevadaville, Colorado, is an incredible 1859 gold-rush ghost town sitting at over 9,000 feet of elevation directly above Central City and Black Hawk. In this video, we explore the rustic remains of what was once a booming, working-class mining hub. We tour the dirt roads to look at crumbling miner homes, massive historic mine tailing piles, and structural bulkheads left behind from the district’s glory days. Established during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush, Nevadaville (originally called Nevada City or Bald Mountain) peaked with thousands of residents and featured over 40 quartz mills. It even rivaled early Denver in importance before the gold reserves dwindled around 1900. While most of the town faded away, its industrial scale remains frozen in time—including the historic 1879 Masonic Lodge, which uniquely remains active as Colorado's only operating ghost town lodge.
