Be Careful Who You Let Into Your Life…Some People Study You Not everybody who enters your life comes with good intentions. Sometimes the person smiling with you, supporting you, asking questions and appearing to be like-minded may be studying your habits, your weaknesses, your relationships, your schedule and your personal business. That’s why situational awareness and discernment matter. In this episode of Everyday Life Unfiltered, Deonte talks about being careful who you trust, recognizing red flags, protecting your personal information and paying attention to the people you allow into your inner circle. This isn’t about living in fear or becoming paranoid. It’s about being aware. Everybody doesn’t need to know where you live, what you make, what problems you’re experiencing, where you’re going, what you’re planning or what’s happening inside your relationship or family. Sometimes we give people access because they’re charming, friendly or appear to have the same beliefs we have. They may say all the right things and even speak about God—but words alone don’t reveal somebody’s character. Pay attention to patterns. Pay attention when somebody constantly brings drama around you. Pay attention when someone makes disrespectful comments disguised as jokes. Pay attention when somebody keeps bringing up your past or making light of things you’ve struggled through. Pay attention when someone seems unusually interested in your personal business. And don’t ignore obvious red flags simply because you don’t want to hurt somebody’s feelings. The Bible tells us in Matthew 10:16 to be “wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” Following Jesus Christ doesn’t mean becoming a pushover or giving everybody unlimited access to your life. You can forgive somebody and still establish boundaries. You can love somebody and still recognize that they shouldn’t have access to you. You can walk with Christ while still exercising wisdom, discernment and situational awareness. Protect your peace. Protect your family. Pay attention to your surroundings. Keep your prayer life strong and ask God for discernment. This message isn’t about fearing everybody around you. It’s about having the wisdom to recognize when something isn’t right.
