American Freedom Train 250 Public Fire Up and Cosmetic Debut

For the last 11 years, the volunteers at the American Steam Railroad in Cleveland, Ohio have been working hard to restore former Reading T-1 2100 back into operational condition. With the celebration of the semiquincentennial arriving soon, it was announced in recent years that the locomotive would debut as American Freedom Train 250, sporting a near identical paint job from the original American Freedom Train 1 from 1979, lead by sister locomotive 2101. With the restoration nearing completion, the American Steam Railroad fired up 250 and rolled it out of the shop for a public steam up for the first time in nearly two decades. Hundreds of people gathered at the Midwest Railway Preservation Society to witness and photograph the locomotive, and feature opportunities for cab tours and whistle blows. With the last few milestones of this anticipated restoration closing in fast, it will be very exciting to see the American Freedom Train rolling the rails once again very soon!
