In 1997, the Ocean Made a Sound Louder Than Any Living Creature — Nobody Knew What It Was In the summer of 1997, a network of underwater microphones heard something impossible: a minute-long rumble, rising in pitch, louder than a blue whale and louder than any animal known to science. It traveled across thousands of miles of ocean. For years, no one could explain it — and the wildest theory of all was that some colossal unknown creature was crying out from the deep. This is the true story of the Bloop, recorded by NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in 1997. Oceanographer Christopher Fox first suspected the sound came from Antarctic ice; in 2005 a research expedition sailed south to listen, and by 2012 scientist Robert Dziak's analysis matched the Bloop to icequakes — the fracturing of massive Antarctic icebergs, loud enough to be heard over 3,000 miles away. The exact 1997 source iceberg was never identified. #Bloop #OceanMystery #NOAA #DeepSea #UnsolvedMysteries #Antarctica #Icequake #Documentary #MysteryDocumentary #SalaarStories
