Torei's Dharma Talk, “The Dharma of Dolly,” September 13, 2026

The Village Zendo's virtual zendo is privileged to present, “The Dharma of Dolly," in which senior student Torei explores how Dolly Parton’s life, music, and Appalachian roots can teach us about Zen, authenticity, generosity, and transformation. Through Dōgen’s teachings and reflections on Jewish ancestry, home, and inheritance, the talk asks: What do we carry with us, and what will we carry forward? ---------------------------- The Village Zendo is a community of people who come together to practice in the Soto Zen tradition. Based in downtown New York City, we offer zazen (sitting meditation), one-on-one instruction with a teacher, dharma talks, chanting services, retreats, workshops and study groups.
