We kick things off with the story of King Tamar, the legendary medieval monarch who ruled during Georgia’s Golden Age. Her incredible legacy sets the stage for everything we explore today! 👑 Our first stop is Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-cut city carved into the sandstone cliffs above the Mtkvari River. Walking through its centuries-old streets, rock-hewn halls, hidden tunnels, and ancient wine cellars truly feels like stepping back in time. Along the way, I also want to talk about one of my favorite parts of traveling around Georgia: the famous Georgian street dogs! 🐶 You meet so many of these gentle, friendly pups everywhere you go, and they really make exploring the country feel even more special. Finally, we make our way to Mtskheta, the historic and spiritual heart of Georgia. We head up to Jvari Monastery for breathtaking panoramic views of the point where the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers meet, before wandering through Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in the historic center. Both Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and seeing this incredible medieval architecture in person is an absolute must for anyone visiting Georgia.
