The Knight Went After the ROOK! 😳♞ | Game #74

♟️ CHESS GAME #74 — WIN Sometimes the knight you ignore becomes the piece that causes the most trouble. ♞😅 I was White against an opponent from India rated around 1030. The game started with my familiar d4 setup, while my opponent developed his bishop along the long diagonal. There were opportunities on both sides almost immediately—and looking back, there were definitely things both of us missed. As the position developed, exchanges started coming. I lost a knight during one sequence and there were several moments where I could have handled the position better. But then another knight became the story of the game. It got deep into the position and started creating problems around my opponent's pieces. And that's one thing about knights that I've learned to respect: When an enemy knight gets close to your important pieces, don't ignore it. Unlike a rook, bishop or queen, its attack isn't always visually obvious. You can look away for one move and suddenly discover a fork—or realise that your rook has nowhere comfortable to go. Eventually, the knight caused serious damage and a rook was lost. My opponent's clock was also becoming a problem, and shortly afterwards the game ended— through abandonment. Not necessarily the cleanest game from either of us, but certainly another reminder of just how disruptive a well-placed knight can become. 🎓 Lesson of the Game Don't judge a knight only by what it's attacking now. Ask what it can attack on its NEXT move. A knight deep in your position can suddenly fork a king and rook, attack a queen, or hit two undefended pieces simultaneously.
