Luke 18.9–14, Proud and Justified

The Parables of Jesus: The Kingdom Story Phillip Wade Martin, Eastside Church of Christ, October 11, 2026 Two men went up to the temple to pray. One stood by himself and told God his record. The other stood far off, would not lift his eyes, and asked for mercy. Only one of them went home justified. In this sermon we walk up the hill with them and back down again. We look at the drive home from church, where we quietly tally up our Jesus points. We hear a prayer that asked God for nothing and a six-word prayer that asked for everything. And we find that the tax collector’s plea for mercy points to the cross, where the mercy seat has a name. The question is simple, and it is pointed. What will you carry home today?
