Audi is bringing back the A2 name—and this time, it’s going fully electric. The upcoming Audi A2 e-tron is shaping up to be one of the most efficiency-focused premium EVs in the compact segment, carrying forward the original A2’s philosophy while introducing modern electric technology. Audi says the A2 e-tron with the 140-kW powertrain and optional efficiency package achieves a preliminary 12.8 kWh/100 km WLTP energy consumption, making it the most efficient Audi ever. That result comes from combining aerodynamic optimization, an upgraded electric drive system, and a battery engineered specifically for everyday usability. One of the biggest advantages is aerodynamics. With a 0.24 drag coefficient, the A2 e-tron reportedly has the best aerodynamic performance among Audi’s compact models. Air curtains, wheel-arch gap reducers, gap breathers, and an active cooling-air intake help reduce turbulence and can lower WLTP energy consumption by up to 0.9 kWh/100 km. Audi has also upgraded the electric powertrain. Silicon-carbide semiconductors reduce switching losses, while thinner motor laminations, revised stator winding technology, and a low-friction transmission help improve efficiency. Audi says these developments can make the drive system up to 10 percent more efficient. The A2 e-tron uses a 61-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery in a cell-to-pack configuration. LFP technology is designed to offer strong durability and allows routine charging to 100 percent. An optimized cooling strategy also gives the battery 89.6 percent wallbox charging efficiency. At DC fast-charging stations, Audi says the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent at up to 105 kW in around 26 minutes. But the cleverest feature may be its ability to work as more than just a car. The A2 e-tron supports Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home, allowing stored energy to power external devices or, in supported markets, help supply a home. From an automotive perspective, this is what makes the new A2 interesting. Audi isn't simply trying to build another fast electric car. Instead, the A2 e-tron is focused on extracting more usable miles from every kilowatt-hour while making charging and battery ownership more practical. Audi plans to unveil the A2 e-tron in fall 2026, positioning it as an all-electric entry point into the brand’s compact lineup. For American buyers, however, Audi has not confirmed U.S. availability in the information provided. The A2 e-tron may not be Audi’s most powerful EV—but it could become one of its smartest.
