“Way Down Hadestown” Hadestown - Pit Band View

This week I was invited down into the depths of the underworld to play in a fantastic youth theatre production of Hadestown. A show I’d heard existed but not one I’d spent any time listening to before being asked to play on it… I quickly learned just how imperative the trombone is to this show! This number placed half way through the first act, “Way down Hadestown” is the 2nd trombone feature of 3. It required expert improvisation skills throughout the entire number based solely around 2 chords It was also a fantastic demonstration of the incredible young man playing Hermes, what a performer! This show ran between 22nd and 24th October 2026 with this recording being taken on the final performance on Saturday evening.
