Can a museum become so memorable that it starts competing with the art inside it? That’s the question behind this episode. The Guggenheim in New York is one of those buildings that’s almost impossible to ignore. The spiral ramp, the central void, the way you keep seeing people and spaces across the rotunda, all of it shapes how you move and where you look. And that’s what makes it interesting. The same design decisions that make the building so powerful can also make it harder for the art to exist in the background. In this video, I look at how the Guggenheim guides movement, controls attention, and changes the relationship between architecture and exhibition. Not to decide whether the building is simply “good” or “bad,” but to ask: What does this space make possible? And what does it make harder? Solomon R.
