Chris Cole Exclusive Interview Wallride X Podcast EP 019

On this episode of the Wallride X podcast, Marko “Sharko” Jazbinsek (Sugar/Unified) and Dez Beristain (aka FlippinBoards) sit down with the legendary Chris Cole, a two-time Thrasher Skater of the Year and one of the most influential figures in skateboarding history. We start at the beginning, tracing Chris Cole's Pennsylvania roots, his early days at Love Park, and how a $100 challenge from Josh Kalis at the Love Gap sparked a career defined by pushing boundaries. Chris shares the untold story of his early connection with Rodney Mullen, recounting his success in Rodney's legendary video trick contest and the mentorship that followed. The conversation dives deep into the team dynamics that shaped an era. Chris Cole explains the pivotal choice between Deca and Enjoi, World Industries, the reality of filming for Zero under Jamie Thomas, and the high-stakes secrecy behind his move to Plan B at the Red Bull Hart Lines contest. We discuss his legendary NBDs, from the massive Wallenberg to the technical precision on handrail tricks. We revisit some of the most iconic moments in skate media, including his wild tour stories with Sammy Baptista and the head-cracking sessions at Pedlow skatepark with Jason Ellis. Chris Cole breaks down his contest mindset, explaining why he prefers jam formats, how he structured his winning SLS Super Crown tricks, and why, for him, a raw street part will always carry more weight than a contest trophy. The discussion turns candid as we address the internet negativity surrounding modern skateboarding. Chris reflects on the idea that skateboarding is eating its own feet, emphasizing the importance of respecting the effort behind a skater's work and why he believes the community should build each other up rather than tear each other down. This episode is packed with history, rare deck pulls, and incredible stories from one of the greatest to ever step on a board. Watch the full episode, subscribe for more, and stay tuned.
