This site is being developed by a local not-for-profit organization named Wyndham House (WH). WH strives to provide low-barrier wrap around support to youth so that they can realize their own version of successful living. The site contains an existing ( original c.1920 ) two and a half storey house and attached 3 storey apartment building addition. The proposed renovation and expansion work is intended to repurpose it from the current (former) 8 room lodging house to a new 3 storey 10-bedroom residential building providing 3 semi-autonomous / fully managed dwelling units. The anticipated building programme aims to provide full barrier-free accessibility to the main level of the renovated house and to substantially increase the overall energy efficiency of the existing structure. Frontiers Design Build has been retained as the project’s Construction Manager – this means that we are heavily involved in the pre-construction planning, as well as providing full construction services for the work. We are currently finalizing the logistical planning stage and will be starting work on site imminently. The construction phase will last into spring 2026. With a building science approach, we are targeting to dramatically improve this building’s performance, maximizing comfort and minimizing energy use. With initial collaboration during the Pre-Constructions stage, we can set the stage for our on site team to implement improvements to airtightness, thermal bridging, insulation, ventilation with heat recovery, and high-performance windows and doors. Ultimately bringing to fruition the pre-construction energy modeling targets.
